What is Laser Dentistry ?
A dental laser is a type of laser designed specifically for use in oral surgery or dentistry.
Several variants of dental lasers are in use with different wavelengths and these mean they are better suited for different applications.
Soft tissue lasers
Diode lasers in the 810–900 nm range are well absorbed by red colored tissues such as the gingivae increasingly being used in place of electrosurgery and standard surgery for soft tissue applications such as tissue contouring and gingivectomy.
the addition of a dental material to teeth or gums – examples: bonding, porcelain veneers (laminates), crowns (caps), gum grafts.
the removal of tooth structure or gums – examples: enameloplasty, gingivectomy.
neither adding nor removing dental materials, tooth structure, or gums – examples: teeth whitening (bleaching), gum depigmentation.
straightening of teeth accompanied by improvement in appearance of face – orthodontics.
